The Personal Genetics Education Project of Harvard Medical School (pgEd.org) is an on-the-ground effort to raise awareness and include all communities in conversations about genetic technologies. Through our work over the past 12 years, pgEd has brought conversations about genetics in through schools, youth groups, libraries, museums, communities of faith, Congressional briefings, and television and film. This will be a panel discussion that highlights pgEd’s experiences in engaging diverse communities, including those where mistrust of outsiders is high, and explores our successes through two-way dialogue. With new initiatives pgEd is piloting in Boston as well as partnerships we are seeding across our nation and the world, pgEd has never been more optimistic that our goal of comprehensive awareness is within reach.
