With the recent approvals of gene therapies and more on the horizon, this session will look to explore real life examples of how payment and delivery systems are evolving to ensure timely patient access to treatments. Various reimbursement strategies have been in discussion, yet some health systems are already moving forward with innovative, new approaches. This session will explore novel models that health systems are looking to incorporate including, reinsurance, new pooling of patients, performance based contracting and utilizing high-cost chronic or rare disease payment funds. Real examples will be provided to showcase how “innovative reimbursement” is occurring in practice and barriers to adoption, utilizing case studies in areas such as rare oncology, cell based therapies and vaccines and how these can be applied to gene therapies. This session will provide a forum to share global multi-stakeholder perspectives on impact and potential solutions.
