IHBIs Executive Director, Professor Ross Young is a clinical psychologist with a research background in integrating genetic and environmental risks for mental illness. He has been Executive Director of IHBI since 2006. Professor Young has research interests in the psychological and biological factors contributing to substance misuse, and major psychiatric illness, such as schizophrenia. He is part of a team that has identified one of the major genes responsible for schizophrenia. Professor Young has a visiting research appointment at the Alcohol Research Centre at the University of California, Los Angeles and has maintained a part-time clinical practice at the Alcohol and Drug Unit and the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He is a past National President of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy. Professor Young is on several boards including Mantle, Gallipoli Medical research Foundation, Ipswich West-Moreton Medicare Local and Cancer Council Queensland. Professor Young has published over 200 refereed journal articles and book chapters.
