Dr. Moira Gunn founded the Business of Biotech program in the School of Management at the University of San Francisco, serving degree programs in MBA, MSIS and PSM in Biotechnology. On a complementary front, Dr. Gunn hosts BioTech Nation, a regular segment of Tech Nation, which airs on such venues as the National Public Radio 24-hour Program Stream (npr.org), among other venues. In this capacity she has interviewed over 800 CEO’s, scientist-entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, policymakers and visionary leaders in the biotech field. Dr. Gunn holds a BS in Computer Science from USF, and an MS in Computer Science and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering degrees from Purdue University. A former NASA engineer and scientist, her book “Welcome to BioTech Nation … My Unexpected Odyssey into the Land of Small Molecules, Lean Genes, and Big Ideas” was cited by the Library Journal on its “Best Science Books of 2007”. She was awarded an honorary doctorate of science by Purdue University, and received the National Science Board’s 2011 Public Service Award to the Individual for her contributions to the public understanding of science and engineering.
