Dr. Parker has been a Program Officer in the Office of Biodefense, Research Resources and Translational Research at the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH since 2007. She manages Centers of Excellence for Translational Research which are multi-project cooperative agreement grants focused on the development of medical countermeasures for high priority select agent pathogens including Ebola/Marburg/Lassa hemorrhagic fever viruses, MDR and XDR-tuberculosis, Nipah and Hendra viruses. Prior to NIH, she worked as a medical epidemiologist with the Navy Medical Research Unit (NAMRU 6) in Lima Peru and NAMRU3 in Cairo Egypt where she conducted active surveillance for dengue fever in S. America and zoonotic disease research and surveillance including influenza, brucellosis, leptospirosis, and respiratory, meningitis and enteric diseases in the Middle East and Africa. She is board certified in veterinary preventive medicine, and an infectious disease epidemiologist and registered nurse.
