Marc Malandro serves as the Founding Director of the University of Pittsburgh Innovation Institute and the Vice Chancellor for Technology Management and Commercialization at the University of Pittsburgh. The Innovation Institute, launched in 2013, leverages the University's campus-wide expertise in teaching and supporting entrepreneurship, assisting entrepreneurs, and transforming world-changing Pitt research into innovations with great commercial potential, to create a central hub of innovation, expertise and other entrepreneurial resources for academic innovators, students, and the region's entrepreneurial community.
Dr Malandro is an Adjunct Professor with appointments in the Schools of the Health Sciences, Swanson School of Engineering, and Katz Graduate School of Business. He is Chairman-Elect of Pennsylvania Bio and serves on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Technology Council. He is a Certified Licensing Professional and Registered Technology Transfer Practitioner.
Prior to joining the University, Dr. Malandro co-founded Sagres Discovery, a systems biology company focused on the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer, where he served as Vice President of Technology and Strategic Alliances and was involved in all aspects of intellectual property, licensing and alliance management.
Dr. Malandro’s expertise is in technology transfer, commercialization of technologies based on university research, intellectual property, industry–academia relations, innovation and entrepreneurship, intellectual property licensing, and alliance management. He also has scientific expertise in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, agriculture and oncology.
